Our Victories
Through the support of fighters like you, the Canadian Cancer Society has had the most impact in the fight against cancer than any other cancer charity in Canada. Below are only a few of the victories we have celebrated in the fight against cancer. But the fight is not yet won. We can do more.
To date, the Canadian Cancer Society has:
- been the first to publicly recommend vitamin D to Canadians, after many studies showed that vitamin D may reduce the risk of some types of cancer, particularly colorectal cancer
- continued to fund a variety of prevention activities that have the potential to reduce the risk of developing cancer
- helped clear the air for Canadians by advocating against smoking on flights, at the workplace, in restaurants and most recently in cars with children
- been a leading advocate for a ban on the use and sale of cosmetic pesticides
- received feedback that over 90% of Canadians who've used the Society’s peer support programs feel more hopeful, less anxious and have a better understanding of what to expect throughout their cancer experience
